Project 72 began with the discovery of a dusty stack of black & white photos in the home of the author's in-laws in Bath, Maine. The photos captured several members of the US men's Olympic track & field team training in Maine shortly before the Munich Games in 1972. While the photographer remains unknown, the discovery of the photos sparked a quest to discover the origins of the training camp and explore the paths that led each of the athletes to Maine - widely known as Vacationland. The Olympians in Vacationland retrospective follows over a decade of research and interviews to celebrate the accomplishments of the iconic athletes who helped ignite the Running Boom of the 1970s.
Shorter, Wottle, Prefontaine and others - they helped spark the Running Boom of the 1970s with gutsy racing and epic performances.
